The Architecture of Care: Film Screening + Conversation

As part of CPH:DOX, Nikolaj Kunsthal presents Caring and I don’t understand the words you use, followed by a conversation on architecture and healing, in connection with "Rest and Routine – Duet for Sanatorium and Modern Hospital".

In connection with the current Platform exhibition “Rest and Routine – Duet for Sanatorium and Modern Hospital”, Nikolaj Kunsthal invites audiences, as part of CPH:DOX, to a screening of “Caring” (13 min) followed by a presentation of “I don’t understand the words you use” (3D animation, 11 min 16 sec). The programme concludes with a conversation on the healing and health-promoting qualities of architecture.

The film “Caring” is by Stockholm-based artist Emelie Carlén and explores questions of care in architecture, taking Alvar Aalto’s Paimio Sanatorium in Finland as its point of departure. “I don’t understand the words you use” is by Cecilie Penney, who is also the artist behind the current Platform exhibition “Rest and Routine – Duet for Sanatorium and Modern Hospital”. The work presents an animated figure attempting to navigate the challenges of the healthcare system.

The conversation on architecture’s capacity to support health and wellbeing brings together, among others, architect, designer and author Christoffer Harlang and artist and composer Cecilie Penney. The discussion will take place in Platform and will be moderated by Lawrence Ebelle, curator of the exhibition.

The conversation will be held in Danish.

The event forms part of CPH:DOX.
