New Platform exhibition

The fifth exhibition of the year in Platform, Nikolaj Kunsthal’s project space, has been developed by visual artist Liesel Burisch in collaboration with the curatorial duo Martin Wendelbo & Regen Li.

Last Thursday, we celebrated the opening of “Nur in Zeit”, an exhibition that explores how rituals can communicate spiritual experience through repetition. Created by artist Liesel Burisch, the work centres on the human urge to create sacred spaces – and the fragility that often surrounds them.

In the exhibition, Liesel Burisch engages with three protected spaces that form the basis of the central video piece: the 40,000-year-old cave paintings in the Leang Leang caves on Sulawesi, Indonesia; Denmark’s only communion wafer bakery in Frederiksberg; and the decadent Phantom Bar located in a crumbling building in Berlin. With hands as a kind of symbolic focal point, the footage moves in and out of these sites, weaving together a sense of connection that resists linear time – opening instead into something circular and fragmented.

“Nur in Zeit” is on view until 23 November.
