Happy New Year! We’re excited to kick off a new exhibition season.

We begin the year with a homage to the filmmaker Lars von Trier. Drawing on Trier’s oeuvre, Nikolaj Kunsthal will be transformed into a total installation, blurring the lines between visual art and film and creating a sensory experience inspired by selected works from this unique filmmaker. We’ll launch the exhibition "Breaking Darkness" with an opening event on Friday, 7 February, from 4:00 PM.

This autumn, the group exhibition "Portalen til øst" ("Portal to the East") will focus on the golden era in Berlin, spanning from the 2000s through the 2010s and into today. Held at the Lower Gallery, the exhibition centres on the art scene and Copenhagen-based visual artists who were drawn to Berlin’s progressive character and remarkable potential.

Running alongside "Portalen til øst", visitors can experience Evren Tekinoktay at the Upper Gallery. Tekinoktay’s work is site-sensitive, informed by the duality and ambivalence of her background, which spans several cultural opposites.

In addition to these three exhibitions, visitors to Nikolaj Kunsthal can also look forward to six annual exhibitions in our project space, Platform, which focuses on showcasing emerging artists and curators. Learn more about the Platform concept here.

The group exhibition "Portalen til øst" —featuring contributions from Elmgreen & Dragset, Vinyl Terror & Horror, Gitte Villesen, and Deniz Eroglu —can be experienced in the Lower Gallery from 29 August.
Evren Tekinoktay’s exhibition in the Upper Gallery opens on 29 August and includes newly produced neon works.
