In collaboration with Kunst på Barsel (‘Art on Parental Leave’), we welcome parents on parental leave and their young children to Nikolaj Kunsthal’s current exhibitions. There is plenty of space for prams, bottles and nappy changes.

On Thursday 4 June, parents with very young children are invited to join us for a special morning visit to our current exhibitions.

Take part in a guided tour of "Alison Knowles: Retrospective 1960–2022", presenting works by the recently deceased American artist Alison Knowles from a career spanning more than 60 years. In the early 1960s, Knowles helped shape the Fluxus movement — a playful and experimental approach to art that became hugely influential in art history — right here at Nikolaj Kunsthal.

You will also have the opportunity to meet artist Noah Holtegaard, who is currently exhibiting in the project space Platform. In "Jeg ønskede aldrig at såre nogen" ("I Never Meant to Hurt Anyone"), Holtegaard explores the scapegoat as both symbol and historical mechanism. Rooted in the Old Testament narrative, the exhibition examines how the figure of the scapegoat recurs throughout history and continues to shape the present.

The tour begins at 10 am, giving participants and their children the kunsthal to themselves until we open to the public at 11 am. There is plenty of space for prams, bottles and nappy changes.

Kunst på Barsel was founded by Malou Solfjeld, a mother and art historian. For several years, Kunst på Barsel has drawn full houses to guided tours at art centres and museums, specially designed for parents on parental leave.

Find tickets here. Please note that this event is purchased as part of a package including four gallery and kunsthal visits in total in June 2026.
