Christian Skjødt Hasselstrøm: Meridians

The Lower Gallery becomes a cosmic listening station as artist and composer Christian Skjødt Hasselstrøm takes over the soaring space. The exhibition unfolds at the intersection of sound, visual art and natural science

Cosmic rays — high-energy particles from outer space — constantly pass through our surroundings and our bodies like an invisible rain. In a new, monumental and site-specific sound installation, Christian Skjødt Hasselstrøm transforms the Lower Gallery into a sensory space where the invisible becomes physically present, and where our constant connection to the universe is brought into focus.

A sensuous revelation
Through advanced detector technology, "Meridians" makes the invisible perceptible. Visitors are invited into sculptural listening stations to experience a cosmic phenomenon that normally escapes our senses — a sensuous revelation that opens up reflections on humanity’s place within a much larger cosmic and ecological context.

Christian Skjødt Hasselstrøm’s practice often revolves around what we cannot immediately sense: invisible signals, vibrations, cosmic phenomena and technological systems, which he translates into site-specific sound installations and immersive environments. Together with the exhibitions "µ" (2022/2025) and "Myriads" (2024), "Meridians" forms a thematic trilogy.

The exhibition’s partners include B&O and Niels Bohr Institutet.

The exhibition opens on 26 August from 16:00–21:00. Read more about the opening party here.

"Meridians" is realised with support from Københavns Kommune, Statens Kunstfond, Augustinus Fonden, Ny Carlsbergfondet, Poul Johansen Fonden and Beckett-Fonden.
