Talk: The Art of Shaping Cities

How can art and urban planning create dynamic and inclusive urban spaces? Meet Alban Corbier-Labasse and Britta Peters in a conversation about creative collaboration and urban development during the Copenhagen Architecture Biennial 2025

How can we ensure the dynamic development of Europe’s capitals – and what role do artists play in shaping the cities of tomorrow? How can urban planning foster spaces that encourage collaboration between artists, architects, and other creatives – while contributing to positive social change and inclusive diversity?

These are some of the central questions up for discussion when Institut français du Danemark, Goethe-Institut, and Nikolaj Kunsthal invite you to a moderated conversation on art and urban development, held in connection with the Copenhagen Architecture Biennial 2025

The talk will feature Alban Corbier-Labasse, director of Friche la Belle de Mai – a major cultural and creative centre in Marseille, located in a former tobacco factory – and Britta Peters from Urbane Künste Ruhr, a curator specialised in art in public space and the artistic director of the institution since 2018.

The conversation will be moderated by Ellen Braae, professor of landscape architecture and head of the research group Landscape Architecture and Urbanism.

The talk, which will be held in English, takes place within the context of the group exhibition “Copenhagen-Berlin: Gateway to the World”, which focuses on a selection of Danish visual artists who were drawn to the German capital in the years following the fall of the Berlin Wall – a period when the city opened itself up as a vast experimental ground and became a vibrant hub for creative practitioners and new artistic movements.

Institut français du Danemark will offer a complimentary drink during the event.
