Opening * The House of Dust x Johan Borups Højskole
Join us for the opening of "The House of Dust" on Friday 12 June, 15:00–18:00. The programme features speeches and performances in the middle of Nikolaj Plads – hopefully under a generous June sun!
Alison Knowles’ "The House of Dust" is a key work within both conceptual art and early computer-generated poetry. It is also a work that challenges the very idea of what an artwork can be: a poem, a structure, a social situation, a performance and a space for learning.
Originally, "The House of Dust" was conceived not only as a text-based work, but also as a physical and social project. Knowles used the generative poem as the starting point for an architectural structure, which was later built in California and functioned as an open gathering place, teaching space and performative framework.
In Nikolaj Kunsthal’s collaboration with Johan Borups Højskole, this open and experimental dimension of the work is reactivated. The students work with chance as an artistic strategy and explore the transition from text to space – from computer-generated poetry to a physical manifestation on Nikolaj Plads.
Everyone is welcome. Free admission.
