Opening Party * Alison Knowles: Retrospective 1960-2022

Join us for the opening celebration of a retrospective exhibition by US artist Alison Knowles, a key figure in the founding of the Fluxus movement in the early 1960s — not least at Nikolaj Kunsthal. Expect performances, a DJ set, and beers from Depanneur.

You are invited to the opening of the exhibition Alison Knowles: Retrospective 1960–2022 at Nikolaj Kunsthal!

The recently deceased American artist Alison Knowles’ works can be experienced at Nikolaj Kunsthal – the very place where, in the early 1960s, she helped found the Fluxus movement. The retrospective exhibition is generous in its presentation of her long artistic career from 1960 to 2022, and on the occasion of the exhibition, a number of her performances and happenings will be re-enacted.

The opening event will take place on Friday 24 April 16:00–20:00. The programme includes a re-enactment of "Piece for Any Number of Vocalists" (1962) as well as "Make a Soup" (1962), led by Amalie og Floras Middage. Visitors can also take part in the participatory event "Celebration Red" (1962), where guests are encouraged to bring a red object.

Isa Ryong will be behind the DJ decks, and the first guests will be offered free beer courtesy of Depanneur.
