Welcome to a New Exhibition Season at Nikolaj Kunsthal

From today, visitors can experience two brand new exhibitions unfolding across all floors of the building. Our weekend tower tours are also back

From today, we are delighted to welcome visitors to two new exhibitions at Nikolaj Kunsthal:

Until 26 July, visitors can experience a major retrospective exhibition devoted to Fluxus pioneer Alison Knowles. Fluxus is part of Nikolaj Kunsthal’s DNA. It was here, in the early 1960s, that the movement took shape in Denmark. Now, one of its most groundbreaking figures returns: Alison Knowles. This far-reaching retrospective sheds light on the recently deceased pioneer and her radical, sensuous works, created over the course of a long artistic career. Spanning the years 1960 to 2022, the exhibition also reactivates a number of the American artist’s significant performances and happenings — in the very rooms where this history first unfolded.

In our project space Platform — dedicated to collaborations between emerging artists and curators — visitors can, until 7 June, explore scapegoat myths in the exhibition "Jeg ønskede aldrig at såre nogen" ("I Never Meant to Hurt Anyone"), created by visual artist Noah Holtegaard and curator Sarah Pihl. In the exhibition, Holtegaard examines the scapegoat as both symbol and historical mechanism. Drawing on the Old Testament narrative in which a goat is burdened with human sin and sacrificed for the sake of the community, the exhibition explores how the scapegoat reappears throughout history and continues to shape the present.

Nikolaj Kunsthal is open Tuesday–Friday from 11 am to 6 pm, and weekends from 11 am to 5 pm. Every weekend in May, June and July, we also offer a daily guided tower tour at 1 pm. Read more about the tower tours here.
