Copenhagen Architecture Biennial at Nikolaj Kunsthal

From 18 September to 19 October, the Danish capital will set the stage for the 2025 edition of the Copenhagen Architecture Biennial. At Nikolaj Kunsthal, we’re contributing to the extensive programme with events that delve into architecture, art, and urban transformation. See the full list of events below – and find more details under Events on this page.
18 September: Kickoff - Copenhagen Architecture Biennial 2025
Join us as the Copenhagen Architecture Biennale launches simultaneously across a wide range of art and cultural institutions – not least at Nikolaj Kunsthal! Enjoy a laid-back pop-up slow-down bar outside on Nikolaj Plads, happy hour, and free admission to Nikolaj Kunsthal’s current exhibitions. The exhibitions unfold within the unique historical and architectural setting in the heart of central Copenhagen, where past and present meet. Get more info.
20 + 21 September: Open House: On Top of the World!
On top of the world! Join us for a trip up the historic Nikolaj Tower and enjoy a panoramic view of Copenhagen from 35 metres above the ground. From here, you’ll have a clear view of many of the city’s architectural landmarks – from the Marble Church, inaugurated in 1894, to Bjarke Ingels' CopenHill, from the 16-kilometre-long Øresund Bridge to Denmark’s first high-rise buildings: the Bellahøj Towers. Multiple tours will take place on both days, starting at 11:30 AM. Admission is free, but capacity is limited. Registration is required. Book your tour – and check the full schedule – here.
20 September: Meet the Architect: Morten Emil Engel
Meet the architect behind the extensive renovation of Nikolaj Kunsthal’s foyer, shop, and café, completed in 2022. In an informal Q&A format, Morten Emil Engel – who has previously worked with firms such as COBE – will share insights into the process of transforming the historic church interior into a modern experience space, while maintaining respectful for its historical context. The renovation has been praised by international architecture and design media including Dezeen, Design Anthology UK, Yellowtrace, and The Spaces. Free admission and happy hour at the bar. Get more info.
25 September: Wine with a View x Pompette – Copenhagen Architecture Biennale Edition
Join us for a special edition of the popular tower event Wine with a View, held as part of the Copenhagen Architecture Biennale. Enjoy breathtaking views of Copenhagen from 35 metres up while Nørrebro wine bar Pompette serves a curated selection of natural wines. Five fantastic bottles – each with its own story, character, and a touch of magic in the glass. Expect a relaxed atmosphere, engaging conversations about wine and architecture – and, of course, stunning panoramic views. Sold Out.
9 October: Talk: The Art of Shaping Cities
How do we shape the cities of the future – and what role does art play in that process? In collaboration with Institut français and the Goethe-Institut, Nikolaj Kunsthal invites you to a conversation about art, urban development, and social change. Meet Alban Corbier-Labasse (Friche la Belle de Mai) and Britta Peters (Urbane Künste Ruhr), moderated by Professor Ellen Braae. The conversation takes place in the middle of the exhibition Copenhagen–Berlin: Gateway to the World. Ticket price of DKK 50 includes a glass of wine. Get your tickets right here.
See you at Nikolaj Kunsthal!
