Platform - Astrid Sonne & Ilethia Sharp

Earlier this year we opened Platform, a new exhibition space. With six annual exhibitions, it is Platform's aim to celebrate young and emerging artists and curators. Behind the sixth Platform exhibition this year is Artist Astrid Sonne and Ilethia Sharp

The solo exhibition, 'Between walls' by Astrid Sonne is an installation and sound piece with a spoken narrative by Lea Marie Løppenthin.

In Sonne’s artistic practice she “investigates how we are in relation to the everyday objects in our surroundings, putting them into a context of interpretation of what the idea of a thing is and what it signifies.” The voice of a protagonist fills exhibition space, as the narrator speaks about a home setting and the memories made within. Unexpected sounds arise as the dominating voice is shifted. The sculptures consist of household items with mussels attached, representing a transitional moment.

The exhibition – the sixth in a row under the title Platform – can be experienced from 10 December to 22 January.

About Astrid Sonne

Sonne is preoccupied with the objects that shape our everyday life in our immediate vicinity. She examines how everyday things or ’invisible’ objects that surround us place us in time and place, both on a personal, societal and structural level. She is interested in how simple steps are needed for us to understand what the idea of a thing is. Often an unspoken narrative is hidden behind Sonne’s works, a conversation between the living and the mass-produced. For this exhibit, she has voiced the narrative and actively worked with the idiosyncratic stories behind the objects. Her idiom is expressed through sculpture and graphics, often as practices that compliment each other.

Astrid Sonne was educated from the The Royal Danish Art Academy in 2020. She has attended several international residencies, including The Danish Institute in Rome (2022), where the inspiration for this exhibition started. Previously, Astrid Sonne has exhibited at, among others, Rigshospitalet, Afdeling O, Copenhagen (2018), Sct. Hans Have, Roskilde (2019), Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen (2020), Augustiana Art Park & Art Gallery, Sonderborg (2021).
