Maria Wæhrens: The Answer

In Maria Wæhrens’ exhibition "The Answer", painting steps out into the space. Monumental canvases hover like walls of fabric, while the exhibition unfolds from a dream of an angel into a sensuous experience in the Upper Gallery

Imagine entering a space where paintings do not simply hang neatly on the walls, but hover and rise freely in the air around you. Here, you encounter enormous paintings that function as walls of fabric — works you can move around — while the artist has also painted directly onto the raw brick walls using the classical egg tempera technique.

Explosive colours and monumental canvases
This sensuous universe unfolds in the exhibition "The Answer" ("Svaret"), created by painter Maria Wæhrens. The exhibition, her largest institutional solo presentation in Copenhagen to date, takes its point of departure in a dream in which an angel appeared to her — a vision she now responds to through art. In the Upper Gallery, the space is given over to an uncompromising and immersive total experience in expressive painting: one expansive spatial composition that interacts directly with the architecture of the exhibition venue.

The exhibition opens on 26 August from 16:00–21:00. Read more about the opening celebration here.

"The Answer" is realised with support from Københavns Kommune, Statens Kunstfond and Augustinus Fonden.
