Pieces of Copenhagen: The Council for Visual Arts 2018-2021

The exhibition presents the Council for Visual Arts’ acquisitions over the past four years. Experience, among others, works by Nanna Abell, Nina Beier, Olafur Eliasson, Elmgreen & Dragset and Kirstine Roepstorff.

"Pieces of Copenhagen" is an exhibition that shows the Council for Visual Arts’ purchase of works over the past four years. The works, which were purchased by the City of Copenhagen for the benefit of both employees and citizens, reflect the city’s dynamic and diverse art environment. The works have been purchased at both smaller and larger exhibition venues, galleries, studios and art fairs in the period 2018-2021.

In the exhibition "Pieces of Copenhagen", you can experience more than 150 different works across media and formats. Experience painting, sculpture, photography, concept and video art by new as well as established artist, for example Nanna Abell, Nina Beier, Olafur Eliasson, Elmgreen & Dragset, Knud Odde, Kirstine Roepstorff and many more.

In addition to the specific works, the exhibition ”Pieces of Copenhagen” also shows how art makes a difference in the municipality’s institutions. This is reflected in a number of photographs of the surroundings in which the works are displayed on an everyday basis, for example in job centres, homes for the mentally ill, large and small institutions as well as corridors and offices where employees and citizens can experience high-level contemporary art – outside a museum context.

The City of Copenhagen has been buying art since 1897. Around 4,000 works have been collected so far, spread over 250 addresses around Copenhagen. This summer, you can see a selection of the collection in Nikolaj Kunsthal.
